AVUE AvueCal – Premixed Calcium Hydroxide Paste with Barium Sulphate
AvueCal is a ready-to-use, premixed calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂) paste with barium sulphate, formulated for use as an intracanal medicament in endodontic treatment. Trusted by dental professionals for over a century in various forms, calcium hydroxide remains the gold standard for canal disinfection, weeping canal management, root resorption treatment, and perforation repair.
Composition
Calcium Hydroxide, Barium Sulphate & Excipients.
Key Advantages
- Premixed Paste: Ready to use — no mixing required, saving chair time.
- Syringe Delivery: Precise, easy placement directly into the root canal.
- Excellent Antibacterial Property: High pH (bactericidal) effectively disinfects the canal after chemomechanical preparation.
- Excellent Radiopacity: Barium sulphate ensures clear radiographic visibility for accurate placement assessment.
- Cavity Liner: Can be used as a cavity liner under restorations.
- Promotes Healing: Stimulates fibroblasts, promotes hard tissue formation, and supports periradicular healing.
- Stops Internal Resorption: Alkaline pH reduces osteoclast activity and stimulates repair of resorptive defects.
- Neutralizes Acidic pH: Converts acidic periapical environment to a more alkaline, healing-conducive state.
Clinical Applications
- Intracanal medicament between appointments (root canal treatment)
- Weeping canal management
- Internal and external root resorption treatment
- Perforation management (alongside MTA/Bioceramics)
- Cavity liner under restorations
- Pulp capping (indirect)
Antimicrobial Mechanism
AvueCal releases hydroxyl ions in an aqueous environment, generating highly oxidant free radicals that damage bacterial cytoplasmic membranes, denature proteins, and disrupt bacterial DNA — providing both bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects.
